I cannot tell a lie, this is one cute cherry tree!

We made a simple and cute President’s Day craft a while ago, and then I promptly forgot to post it. So, luckily my extremely clouded brain (Cloudy due to sinus and ear infections. Seriously, who still gets ear infections at 27? Other than me.) remembered to post it before Monday.

While I am being brutally honest about my age and current mental capabilities, I’ll share one more embarrassing fact. When I thought of making a cherry tree in remembrance of the “I cannot tell a lie” story for President’s Day, I thought the virtuous president from the story was Abraham Lincoln. You know, Honest Abe? Well, yep. I was dead wrong. George Washington cut down the cherry tree. Being a parent is great. You get to re-learn everything you once knew, but promptly forgot once you left grade school. Thank you Moo and Captain for making your mama a more well-rounded person.

Supplies: green, brown, and red paint, white paper, q-tips, and lots and lots of baby wipes (I have found that baby wipes are one of best things for cleaning washable paint off of tiny children and tables.

Start by painting your child’s whole forearm and hand with brown paint. Then use their very messy arm to make the tree trunk and branches. My kids were in awe of the fact that I was covering them with paint. After making the tree print wipe the brown paint off their arm and hand.

The next couple of steps are all in one picture since I didn’t have a chance to take pictures. First paint one hand with green paint and let your child make leaves on the tree with their handprint. You may need to cover their hand with green paint more than once. After you are done with the green wipe their hands clean again. Lastly, allow your child to paint small red cherries on the tree with the q-tip. Moo really wanted to use pink paint so we also added some cherry blossoms to the tree with another q-tip. This is The Captain’s tree. It is really good, but only because I help him with every step. He still had fun getting his hands covered in paint.

This is Moo’s tree before I trimmed it down and placed in on blue paper. Her’s is a lot rougher than Jack’s, but she worked pretty independently. She had fun and was very proud of her work.

Happy President’s Day from my home to yours! And….

Happy Crafting!!
